The Year of the Rooster is upon us, and we would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very prosperous and happy Chinese New Year!

Amidst all the festivities and traditional snacks, we would like to point out some of the common causes of physical strains encountered over the course of Dr Stakes’ 16 years practicing in Singapore.

Reason 1: Queuing at the Buffet Line

Food, Food and Glorious Food! For some of us, we will find ourselves in buffet lines over this period at our family’s or friend’s places. Some queues can really stretch, but if you are keen going for seconds, you will spend even more time standing up. Make sure you keep your weight on both your feet for good posture!

Reason 2: Watching Blockbusters on big TVs

Brace yourselves for ads that keep running repeatedly on your TV or your relative’s TV. Avoid slouching every time the blockbuster goes to commercial no matter how bored you get. Keep your back in contact with the cushion and avoid sinking into the couch as it will strain your spine. Remember when your muscle works, your bones take a break.

Reason 3: Chasing after Toddlers

Looking forward to spending some quality time with new members in your family? As kids go, they have boundless energy and will be running all around the place. Remember to stretch after chasing them around while bending at hips rather than at the waist – get some blood flowing to your muscles as it aids in healing.

Reason 4: Achieving Winning Streaks in Mahjong

It’s 1am and you are on a roll, and you have been sitting on your auspicious seat for over 5 hours since dinner time. Remember to get up and walk about every 30 minutes. We know Mahjong is sometimes referred to as “Indoor Swimming”, but it’s not really swimming.

Reason 5: Visiting Relatives

How many houses are you going to cover over the two weeks? How many of these houses require you to walk a distance from the carpark or bus stop? If you are driving, start early so that you can get the best lots. Time your trip wrongly and you will be walking so much you will be aching the next day.

Always remember that our bodies will be with us for as long as we are alive. Some simple steps can extend the lifespan of our moving parts significantly! But if you find yourself aching, book your consultation with Dr Stakes!

恭喜發財
